A guided day trip by minibus to Oxford and the Cotswolds, followed by a delicious lunch in a traditional Cotswolds country pub. Enjoy the pretty countryside scenery of Cotswold villages as well as historic Oxford. This tour highlights the landscapes, heritage and architecture.
After meeting up with your driver/ guide, you will travel to Oxford, the city of the dreaming spires. Here you will take a walk around with your guide who will tell you all about alumni J.R.R. Tolkien, poet and playwright Oscar Wilde, Stephen Hawking and much more. Enjoy the charming narrow back streets to ancient colleges and pretty quadrangles and beautiful squares, soak up the atmosphere of this charming university city. After the walk you will have some free time to wander around on your own.
Departure from Oxford, the drive will take you to the gentle rolling limestone hills of the Cotswolds, you will learn all about the rise and fall of the wool trade in this region and how it left behind a landscape untouched by the modern world. The charming small honey coloured stone villages and hidden green valleys will enchant.
The next stop is in idyllic Burford, here you will find stone houses cascading down to the River Windrush, visit the historic churchyard before lunch in a traditional Cotswold country pub. Enjoy the relaxed atmosphere of the ancient stone hostelry and experience centuries-old tavern life. The next stop of the day is in Bibury with its photogenic collection of houses known as Arlington Row, the village of Bourton on the Water with its collection of stone bridges follows. Along the way, admire the picturesque landscapes for which Cotswold is so famous. The minibus then sets off for a special visit to Stow-on-the-Wold, see the village green and its historic market square.
The drive back to London will take you through the villages of Chipping Norton and Woodstock.
