A full-day tour by minibus visiting film locations related to ‘Downtown Abbey’. The tour will take in villages such as Shilton and Bampton, the final stop is Highclere Castle in Hampshire which was Lord Grantham's family house in the series. The tour departs from London.
After meeting up with your driver/ guide, he will take you through the beautiful countryside of the Cotswold hills to Cogges Manor Farm. The first stop showcases the film's location on the river Windrush. Learn more about the farm and the role it had as Yew Tree Farm and how Lady Edith's daughter Marigold was raised by the Drewe family. Explore the kitchens, Mr. Drewe's living room and the yard recognisable from many film scenes.
After a short coffee break, continue to the village of Shilton. This famous ford was used in the series as the village of Swinbrook. During the series, Lady Sybil and Tom Brandson spent the night here during their aborted escape. The next stop is Bampton to see the filming location of the funerals, weddings and even jubilees. Here you will enjoy a guided walk past some of the famous scenes in the show featuring The Cottage, the hospital, the post office and many more.
The next stop is Highclere Castle in Hampshire, known from the series as Lord Grantham's family seat. Explore the landscape Lancelot 'Capability' Brown designed around this castle and walk up to its impressive front door. The cast and crew were hosted here throughout the filming of the series. If you look closely, you should be able to see the spot where O'Brien tripped over Bates or when Kemal Pamuk's body was moved. Wander around the dining room, visit Robert Crawley's library and the several bedrooms. Be sure to visit the basement as that is where the Egyptian exhibition was created thanks to the 5th Earl of Carnarvon. After 3 hours in the castle, you return to London where the tour comes to an end.
