On this full day excursion from Bayeux, you will learn about the significant contribution made by the Canadian forces during the events of D-Day.
The first stop will be at Juno Beach where Canadian forces arrived on June 6th, 1944. Visit Juno Beach centre, where firsthand accounts and historical relics offer a profound insight into the challenges faced by soldiers who fought on this battleground. Here you will also be able to explore the network of bunkers that served as vital command posts for the Germans, during the D-Day landings.
You will then continue to Beny-sur-Mer, the Canadian cemetery. This cemetery is located on top of a hill that overlooks the coast, it is the resting place for 2.043 Canadians.
The day continues with a visit to Authie also known as Hell’s Corner. In this village, Canadians encountered fierce German resistance and a violent counterattack, resulting in significant casualties and the loss of territory.
Following that, you will visit the Norman Ardenne Abbey, dating back to the 12th century. Taken over by Germans, a number of Canadian prisoners were brought and executed here. Finally, you will go to Carpiquet, the oak line and hill 67 before heading back to Bayeux.
